Why do we need professionals for blood cleanup?

Submitted on: Wed, 02 May 2012 06:00:01Views: 447
The industry of crime scene cleanup resurrected in in the 80’s when Police and other government unions decided that due to the pathogenic properties of blood and deadly diseases like HIV in the headlines on a daily basis. This was the beginning of a new industry in the United States.

Essentially for the first time ever people became concerned with how to clean up blood properly and began to understand better that the average person is not suited or trained to do this work now that we had a better understanding of how invisible viruses can linger at a property even after household chemicals were used to clean.

Prior to this understanding either the Police would provide cleanup of the majority of the scene, the Coroners office, or Church and Community organizations would help a neighbor in need.

Today this understand of blood borne pathogens has grown into the biohazard business known as crime scene clean up and is continuing to grow as we find more diseases and blood related health issues that stem form the blood at a death scene or self inflicted injury where there was blood splatter or loss of some form. Crime Scene Cleanup

In just the last 10 years science has identified a growing zoonotic number of diseases and just like when a chimpanzee microbe moved into human transmission and became what we know as AIDS we have become more vigilant at being protective of our surrounding and environment so that a new human to human blood borne disease does not come into existence.

To this the Center for Disease Control has identified over 100 emerging infectious diseases some of these include many diseases cause by bacteria and microbes like protozoan parasite, Trypanosoma cruzi, Campylobacter, Clostridium botulinum, to name just a few that are on the radar today and could turn into major problems.

With this growing body of knowledge from the World Health Organization and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), about how infectious disease work and spread, as a society we are learning how to prevent this spread through processes like professional crime scene cleanup to deal with the cleaning up of blood and bodily fluids and the sanitizing of the room in which a death occurred.

The effort does not stop their though, in many States, Laws have been executed in order to make sure that anything that might be contaminated with a disease or disease causing microbe, is transported professionals and in a secure vehicle and then incinerated to ensure that these biological hazardous materials do not fester in our underground water supply and general environment.

Although the United States does a better job then the rest of the world at managing the spread of infectious diseases, it is in no small part because we are one of the only countries that by Law utilize crime scene clean up and professional blood transportation and incineration modules, including but not limited to Sharps disposals and laws against reusing any materials that were involved in handling or cleaning of a hazardous scene with blood spill or sanitization of a infectious scene.
